Community

Overview

AGL is Australia's leading integrated renewable energy company. We are using this base to build a sustainable energy future for our customers, our investors and the communities in which we operate.

AGL plans to be here for the long term, and as a long-term owner operator we are committed to being a valued member of the local community.

We will develop constructive working relationships and communication channels in order to build community trust and pride in the AGL Bluff Wind Farm.

The project will contribute to a more sustainable future through the supply of renewable energy to the wider community.

Community Charter

Principle 1: We will deliver on our promises to the community
- with actions, not words.

Principle 2: We will endeavour to respond to all queries within 5 working days.

Principle 3: We may not be able to solve all perceived problems put to us, but we will investigate, aim to find a solution and communicate the outcomes.

Principle 4: We are committed to being a valuable member of the community by using our resources to build a stronger local community.

Principle 5: We will leave a positive legacy in the community that extends beyond the life of the project.

Benefits for the community

  • There will be up to 100 construction crew on-site over the construction period, which will substantially boost the local economy with increased spending and through local buy of goods and services.
  • Landowners will benefit from a diversified income source which is 'drought proof'.
  • AGL will establish a community fund valued at $15,000 per year from the commencement of construction of the wind farm to the end of its operational life to support local projects, in consultation with the Regional Council of Goyder. This is in addition to the Community Funds already established for the Hallett Stage 1, 2 and 4 projects.
  • In addition to the community fund, AGL has supported local events such as the Bush to Burra Cattle Drive and Burra's Jazz in the Mine
  • AGL will continue with its strategy of building long term local partnerships by investing in the local community
  • The project will contribute to the Federal Government's expanded Renewable Energy Target of 20 per cent of the nation's electricity generation coming from renewable sources by 2020.
  • The AGL Bluff Wind Farm will produce up to 52.5 MW of clean, green energy - enough to power approximately 26,600 average Australian households each year.
  • When operational, the AGL Bluff Wind Farm will save approximately 161,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year.
  • AGL reduces risk to the environment and minimises its environmental impact by integrating considerations of environmental sustainability into all activities. Key considerations for AGL and its stakeholders in minimising environmental impact include pollution prevention, promotion of waste minimisation, reuse and recycling, the efficient use of resources such as water and energy and protecting cultural heritage.

Community Fund Update

The annual cheque handover occurred on the 9th December 2010 in Burra for the Regional Council of Goyder component of the AGL Community Fund. Over $30,000 was distributed to 16 community clubs and associations from the region. This is in addition to $22,000 provided in the Northern Areas Council area. The Community Fund will operate for the operational life of AGL’s wind farms in the area. Applications for the 2011 funding round will be sought in August.
