Community Matters
Overview
AGL is Australia's leading integrated renewable energy company. We are using this base to build a sustainable energy future for our customers, our investors and the communities in which we operate.
AGL plans to be here for at least the next 25 years, and as a long-tem owner operator we are committed to being a valued member of the local community.
We will develop constructive working relationships and communication channels in order to build community trust and pride in the AGL Oaklands Hill Wind Farm.
The project will contribute to a more sustainable future through the supply of renewable energy to the wider community.
Community Charter
Principle 1: We will deliver on our promises to the community – with actions, not words.
Principle 2: We will endeavour to respond to all queries within 5 working days.
Principle 3: We may not be able to solve all perceived problems put to us, but we will investigate, aim to find a solution and communicate the outcomes.
Principle 4: We are committed to being a valuable member of the community by using our resources to build a stronger local community.
Principle 5: We will leave a positive legacy in the community that extends beyond the life of the project.
Benefits for the community
- The project will contribute to the federal government's expanded Renewable Energy Target of 20 per cent of the nation's electricity generation coming from renewable sources by 2020.
- The AGL Oaklands Hill Wind Farm will produce 63 MW of clean, green energy - enough to power approximately 35,000 average Australian households each year.
- When operational, the AGL Oaklands Hill Wind Farm will save approximately 185,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year.
- There will be up to 100 construction crew on-site over the construction period, which will substantially boost the local economy with increased spending and through local buy of goods and services.
- AGL has established a community fund valued at $50,000 to support local projects. Funding will be allocated through consultation, ranking and agreement with local recognised community associations.
- In addition to the community fund, AGL has also committed $10,000 per annum towards Brulga Habitat and a further $10,000 per annum towards salinity management.
- AGL is committed to ongoing monitoring, offsets and local community investment for the life of the project, to conform to planning permits.
- AGL will continue with its strategy of building long term local partnerships by investing in the local community
- AGL reduces risk to the environment and minimises its environmental impact by integrating considerations of environmental sustainability into all activities. Key considerations for AGL and its stakeholders in minimising environmental impact include pollution prevention, promotion of waste minimisation, reuse and recycling, the efficient use of resources such as water and energy and protecting cultural heritage.
